Richard Hannay (Rupert Penry-Jones) returns to London from Africa and finds himself hopelessly bored with the banality of his old life.
That changes when Hannay's reclusive neighbor, Scudder (Eddie Marsan), barges into his apartment and announces himself as a member of the British Secret Service. Soon German spies arrive, kill Scudder and flee the scene, leaving Hannay to take the rap.
Hannay struggles on the run to decipher a coded message left by Scudder, hoping to complete the man's mission.
